Common questions


1. I can not log into the Website.

If you are not able to log in, please check if you used a different e-mail address or password to register. If you forgot your password, please reset your password through "Forgot password?" If your subscription expired, you will not be able to log into the Website. If you cancelled your subscription, you should have received an automatic response via e-mail -- "Cancellation of your subscription - Nikkei Asia" at your registered e-mail address (Login ID). Please check your e-mail inbox.

2. I have forgotten my password.

Click "Log in" at the top-right corner of the Nikkei Asia homepage. Just click "Forgot password?" and enter your e-mail address to reset your password.

3. How can I change my subscription plan?

Log into the Nikkei Asia website, visit the "Your account" page (linked from the top right of the website), and change your next subscription plan (term and/or type of subscription). Please note that cancellation of or changes to your current subscription are not offered.

4. How can I cancel my subscription?

Your current subscription is non-refundable. If you do not want your subscription to be automatically renewed, log into the Nikkei Asia website, visit the "Your account" page (linked from the top right of the website), and cancel your subscription renewal.

5. Can I get a subscription receipt?

We do not issue subscription receipts for individual subscribers. You can refer to the "Purchase history" section in the "Your account" page.

6. I have not yet received the Nikkei Asia Print Edition.

Nikkei Asia Print Editions are sent weekly from Japan by regular mail/airmail, so it will take some time for you to receive it. If you are a new Subscriber, you will receive the Nikkei Asia Print Editions starting with the issue of the week after next.

7. I want only a print subscription.

We do not offer a print-only subscription plan.

8. Can I buy a Nikkei Asia Print Edition at any bookstore?

Nikkei Asia Print Editions are available at the following bookstores. You can check if the magazine is in stock at the bookstore by phone.

9. Can I make a corporate subscription?

We offer corporate rates depending on the number of IDs and print copies purchased. Our basic corporate plan is 3 IDs (three persons) + 1 print copy for 6 or 12 months. The payment method is on an invoice basis. Find our online application form here.

Subscriptions

1. Digital

Digital Subscribers get unlimited access to the Services offered on the Website and Mobile Apps for the purchased period.

Subscriptions will be automatically renewed with the currently effective plan unless cancelled or changed before the renewal date (JST).

2. Digital + Print

Digital + Print Subscribers get the same unlimited access as Digital Subscribers and additionally will be sent a weekly Print Edition for the purchased period. Prices include shipping fees.

For certain countries we may not be able to provide this package. We currently cannot accept delivery to Somalia. For the latest situation please see here

Subscriptions will be automatically renewed with the currently effective plan unless cancelled or changed next subscription plan before the renewal date.

3. Mobile Apps

App Subscribers will have access to all contents on Mobile Apps for the purchased period. Subscriptions will be available through Apple's App store and Google's Google Play store. Subscriptions purchased on the App store will be valid only on iOS devices. Subscriptions purchased on the Google Play store will be only valid on Android devices.

Subscriptions will be automatically renewed unless you change your settings.

4. Digital Subscriber Subscription cycle example



Subscriptions will renew on the same day that your first subscription was purchased.

If the date that you purchased your subscription is a date that does not exist in the month that the subscription is to renew, the last date existing in the renew month will be the renewal date. If in this case an automatic renewal of your subscription is made, the next renewal date will be the nearest date to the first date that you purchased your subscription.

For example if your first purchase of a 1 month Digital subscription is Jan 31,

-> First Renewal Date Feb 28 (If it is a leap year it will end on the 29)
-> Second Renewal Date March 31
-> Third Renewal Date April 30
-> Fourth Renewal Date May 31...and so on.

5. Digital + Print Subscriber Subscription cycle example



The Print Edition is published every Monday. A copy of the Print Edition will be sent out if the Subscriber has a valid subscription on the Monday of the week before.

The subscription cycle of the digital part of the subscription will be identical to Digital subscriptions.

6. Accepted payment methods

You can pay for your subscription with either a credit card or a PayPal account.

The accepted credit cards are Visa, Master and American Express card only.

If you are a Corporate Subscriber, you can opt to make payment by other methods. Please contact us for details.

For subscriptions for Mobile Apps, please refer to the instructions of the store that you purchased your subscription from.

7. Applicable currency exchange rates for Subscription Fees

If you pay with credit cards, exchange rates will differ according to the credit card that you use for payment. For details please consult your credit card issuer.

If you pay via PayPal, the exchange rates will depend on the settings of your PayPal account.

8. Receipt/Certificate of subscription

A receipt or a certificate of subscription will not be issued. You can check your payment history on the "Your account" page. Access the page by clicking on the "Your account" link in the top right hand corner of the Website.

9. Cancellation and changes to subscriptions mid-contract and refunds

Cancellation and changes to subscriptions mid-contract and refunds are not offered. A cancellation or change of subscription plan will only be effective for the next subscription after the expiry of the current subscription term.

10. How to cancel or change your next subscription

Access the "Your account" page from the link at the top right corner of the Website and change or cancel your next subscription.

For Mobile Apps please refer to instructions for the store that you purchased your subscription from.

11. How to edit your account details and payment details

Access the "Your account" page from the link at the top right corner of the Website and change your account details and payment details by clicking on "edit" buttons located on the top right corners of the corresponding fields.

12. Multiple subscriptions in error

In the event that you accidentally make multiple subscriptions, we will not offer refunds or accept cancellation of subscriptions.

13. Corporate subscriptions

For Corporate Subscribers we offer corporate rates depending on the number of IDs and print copies purchased. For further details please contact us. We will have our nearest sales agency contact you as soon as possible.

14. Non Subscriber

If you are a Non Subscriber you are granted free access to 5 articles per month on the Website. You may also be granted free access to a limited number of articles on Mobile Apps. Conditions are subject to change without notice.

Using the Website

1. Required Specifications

Depending on the browser used it may not be possible to use part or all of the Website.

2. Logging in

Press the "Log in" button at the top of the webpage and type in your e-mail address or trial ID and password.

3. Login "Remember me" feature

You can make your browser remember your login details for 30 days by checking the "Remember me" box when logging in. Please refrain from using this feature if you are accessing from a PC that is shared with other people.

4. Log in Error

If you close your browser without logging out of the Website, you may be shown the message “This account is already in use” when you try to log in. Please try logging in again later. After a set amount of time your account will be automatically logged out.

5. Accessing weekly editions

Go to the top page and click on the cover image of the "Print Edition" section or click the "Print Edition" link on the right corner of the Website.

6. Searching for articles

Type a word that you would like to search in the search box located in the top right hand corner and click the search button. On the search results page you can sort and filter your search results by using the options located on the left side of the page.

7. Printing articles

Press the "Print" button located at the top of the article that you would like to print. A printer friendly version of the article will be shown in a separate window.

The printing of articles are strictly meant for personal use only. If you intend to use articles for commercial purposes please contact us for further information.

9. Forgotten ID's and Passwords

Your ID is the e-mail address that you used to register.

You can change your password from the "Forgot password?" link located on the "Login window". You will receive an e-mail to your registered e-mail address that will contain a link to the change password feature.

This process is only possible through the Website.

10. Editing ID's and Passwords

You cannot change your ID.

To change your password access the "Your account" page and press the "Edit" button for the "Your account" field. You can change your password after clicking the "Change" button next to your current password.

This process is only possible through the Website.

11. Editing payment information

To change your payment information access the "Your account" page and press the "Edit" button for the "Payment information" field. Edit your payment information and press the "save" button.

To edit your payment information for app subscriptions follow the instructions provided by the store that you purchased your subscription from.

12. Editing account details

To change your account details access the "Your account" page and press the "Edit" button for the "Your account" field. You can change your password after clicking the change button next to your current password.

This process is only possible through the Website.

13. Checking your current subscription details

Access the "Your account" page.

You can access your current subscription details only from the Website.

14. Contact preferences

You will receive updates and special offers from Nikkei, Nikkei's partners and third parties if you opt to do so.

To opt in or out, access the "Your account" page from the link located in the top right corner of the Website.

Depending on the e-mail address you have registered, you may not be able to receive our e-mails. App Subscribers will not be able to use this service.

Using Mobile Apps

1. What devices does the Nikkei Asia app work on?

Nikkei Asia app is designed to work with iOS and Android devices.

3. Do I need to pay for the app?

Our app is available to download for free. However, a paid subscription is required for full access. If you are already a subscriber, simply sign in to enjoy unlimited access. If you are not a subscriber, you can find further information regarding subscriptions here, or purchase a subscription via the Nikkei Asia application page.

4. I have a Digital subscription for Nikkei Asia. How do I sign in to the app?

Open the app and tap the "Account" button to find the "Sign in" button or simply tap an article and you will be prompted to sign in. Then enter your Nikkei Asia subscription details and sign in.

5. How do I subscribe to Nikkei Asia through the app?

Please take the following steps:

1. Upon opening the Nikkei Asia mobile app, tap on "Account,” then "Subscribe."
2. You can choose a monthly or annual subscription.
3. Payments will be charged to your App Store/Google Play Store account.
4. Your subscription will be renewed automatically at the end of your subscription period, by default. You will be able to cancel the automatic renewal at any time from your App Store/Google Play Store account settings page.
5. If you are already a subscriber to Nikkei Asia, tap the "Sign in" option on the "Account" page, followed by "Restore.” If your subscription is still active, you can enjoy unlimited access to the mobile app.

6. How do I change or cancel my subscription, if I signed up through the app?

7. What should I do after I get a subscription through the App Store / Google Play Store, but I cannot access the Nikkei Asia content?

Please verify the purchase of your subscription on your device by navigating to the "Account" page, followed by "Sign in" and "Restore." You should be able to access Nikkei Asia's content after completing the restoration. If the problem persists, please contact us here.

8. After purchasing a subscription through the App Store or Google Play, how do I access Nikkei Asia on my PC and mobile devices?

In the Nikkei Asia app, go to the "Account" page and tap "Create your account." Then fill in the information and confirm registration details. After submission, you can sign in on all your devices.

9. Why should I allow notifications?

When you allow notifications we can automatically send you important news and information pertinent to the app or your Nikkei Asia subscription, for example, new features, upcoming events or service messages.

10. How do I configure the push notifications on iOS and Android Devices?

Please follow the instructions below.

1. Open "Settings" app.
2. Tap "Notifications."
3. Find the Nikkei Asia app.
4. Configure your settings.

Android
1. On your Android device, tap "Settings" > "Notifications."
2. Tap on the Nikkei Asia app.
3. Select or clear the check box next to "Allow notifications" to enable or disable push notifications.

11. How do I search for articles on the app?

Tap the "Search" button and input a keyword. You can sort search results by relevance or recency.

12. How can I read offline?

Open your app when your device has access to the internet. Your app will automatically download the latest stories so you can read them offline.

13. How do I personalize my timelines?

Open the app and tap the “Account” button.
Tap "Edit timelines" and select the timelines you want to see.
Rearrange the order of your timelines by holding the button on the right side of timelines and dragging them into your desired order.

14. Where can I find my saved articles?

Open the app and tap the “Account” button.
Tap "My saved articles" to view your saved articles.
Unselect the save button on articles to remove them from your list.

15. How do I share articles?

Click the “Share” button on the top right corner of the articles.

Print Edition

1. Publication and delivery dates

A new issue will be published weekly on Monday. 51 issues will be published a year. Delivery dates differ depending on delivery addresses and postal operation situations.

2. Updating delivery addresses

Access the "Your account" page from the link at the top right corner of the Website and edit your delivery address details. Changes made to your details by Monday (JST) will be applied to the delivery of the issue to be sent out on that week.

3. Claims regarding delivery

Please contact us through our inquiry form if you do not receive an issue.

4. Temporary hold of delivery

We cannot temporarily hold delivery of the Print Edition.

5. Print only subscription

Subscription to the Print Edition is offered only as a package with a Digital subscription.

General Inquiries

1. Comments regarding editorial material

Please send your comments regarding editorial material from the inquiry form on the contact us page. Please be aware comments submitted may be published in an anonymous style.

2. Difference of content between platforms

Articles published on the Print Edition and Mobile Apps are identical. Additionally to this, the Website will include other content that is updated through the day.

To have access to all the content you must either purchase a Digital or Digital + Print subscription.
